Certified Doula (CD) - Birth and Postpartum

Madhu Rajakittu

Well, it’s Madhumitha, but you can call me Madhu.

I am a certified birth and postpartum doula through National Black Doula Association (NBDA). I believe that birth is the most sacred event in nature. My goal is to empower every birthing person to have the birth they desire. I am here to provide emotional, physical, and informational support. I am also here to coach the birthing person to see the value and strength in the way they intended to bring their baby into this world. I see it as my utmost privilege to serve the birthing community.

From my previous roles as an Engineer, HR professional and teacher, I bring with me the skills of research, scientific evidence and meaningful relationship building. I am very passionate about everything birth especially informed consent, birthing rights and advocacy for birthing people. More so for the marginalized, vulnerable and under-represented communities. I have been a doula since 2021 and have supported families of different backgrounds and through different journeys. I support hospital, home and birth center births.

As a mother navigating a different culture, I like to parent with a balanced approach, taking the best from both cultures. In my free time, I like to spend time with my husband and 7 yo daughter out in the garden, parks or biking. As a former teacher, I still love volunteering/ subbing at my daughter’s school. I like to read different books at different times of the day, preferably non-fiction, so send recommendations my way. I love to work on continuing ed courses to add more skills that could help my birthing clients. I feel blessed to be in the birthing space, serving and watching families grow.

As a way to support the community that I am so fortunate to be a part of, I along with my mentor and fellow doula, run a community outreach project called ‘What’s a Doula?’. We aim to connect with the members of the community to create awareness about the various maternal health issues, racial disparities, micro-aggressions and normalize these conversations. We created ‘What’s a Doula?’ with the passion of helping BIPOC families that are navigating the birthing world, either as a repeat experience or a new one.
